Baffling comment by my JW parents about non-witness funeral
by joyfulfader inmy parents attended the funeral of an elderly family member today.
being out of state i was unable to attend.
i asked how it went and was told that "worldly" people don't care enough about anyone to mention anything personal.

"They stated they were horrified by the cookie cutter talk "
They've never actually heard a WT funeral talk have they? That's about as unpersonalized and cookie cutter as a memorial service can come.
Oubliette, your post knocked me on my ass- I didn't know the outline actually stated to not eulogize the deceased but instead focus on giving a good message of the truth. Wow!

Welcome Daniel, I think just for the sake of avoiding a potential problem with the misses to go with option 2.

Role Reversal: Placing 1969 Awake with JW's Manning the New Portable Literature Displays
by snapdragon4 inin recent weeks the jw’s here in the uk have been setting up their new portable watchtower literature displays in my local town square on a saturday morning.
as they hadn’t knocked on my door for at least five years, and consequently feeling somewhat neglected, i thought that i would pay them a visit instead.. .
the first thing i needed to do was arrange my literature.

I gambled at a Casino and won a whole $10 bucks and have been watching cartoons every Saturday morning- trying to reclaim the childhood they owe me.
Take that WT!

Former Unbaptized Publisher, New Here
by GloomySunday informer unbaptized publisher, here.. i'm new to the forums and have hesitated for months to join this forum.
i was raised in a jw family, and was never baptized, because one of my parents didn't think i should be baptized early.. my mother became inactive, but i eventually went back for social contact, eventually starting a study.
i raised a few questions, only to find that the conductor would get irritated and defensive when my questions would get deeper into the topic.

Experience regarding Elders being spirit appointed
by Comatose ini was told recently about a situation where an elder did not get recommended to serve upon moving to a new hall.
i think he left for a job.
but, something internal politics happened in the old hall and he was not recommended.

One, isn't it funny the way congregational politics works?
Yeah it is, sometimes I couldn't wrap my mind around how ridiculous some of these guys would act- especially when the CO came around. It was like the King himself had arrived and they would go into full politico mode.
Two, if spirit does the appointing, then how could it be wrong to appoint him?
Well the truth has to be that most JW men that are trying to "reach out" for one of those power positions are really just good old fashioned lobbyists. The case you shared with us illustrates the fact perfectly, using service time and charisma they win over people's hearts and gain favor. How can it be then that they're spirit appointed? It can't be but the plan sounds good on paper.
Thanks for sharing.

"I wondered if you ever apologized to Jehovah for smearing his name all over the public media because you 'just couldn't help yourself.'"
Really, Barbara Anderson has to apologize to Jehovah for smearing his name?....Nah all the pedophiles lurking in now and that have ever been in and hurt some poor kid need to do that.
Because in reality you were just one of these strong women who didn't know how to stay in your place and faithfully serve Jehovah
Ah this person is ridiculous, "stay in your place"- like some servant who doesn't have the right to question?
The balls on some of these JW's is Guiness worthy, I don't understand how a logical person can blame someone for taking a stand and trying to correct a dangerous situation.
